Let me tell you a story. On December 23rd, a few days after having gone to see the American version of The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, I decided to start a blog. People had been asking me how the movie was, and I figured that maybe I could do people a service and provide an outlet for my passion about film. I am already a staff writer on my college newspaper, and almost every week last semester, I published a skeleton movie review, for films such as Contagion, The Help, and more. I wanted a place that I could go to really delve into the films in the way I've always wanted to.
You see, I'm a Theatre and English double major at Piedmont College with the intention of pursuing professional acting as a career. At the same time, though, nothing fills me with more joy than watching a good movie and really sinking my teeth into it. Judging an actor's performance, analyzing symbolism, picking away in an attempt to look for director's choices... it's my passion, and writing movie reviews is my outlet.
If I don't succeed as a performer, I am very interested in becoming a professional movie critic, and Jacob McMovie is just the first stepping stone on the way to what could become a very prosperous career. But it's not just about me -- it's about you guys, and providing you with information you need to know about the films being reviewed. What should you watch? What shouldn't you watch? What's another person's take on it? So, in an attempt to make things more about you, I'm going to begin an initiative.
I want your input. In whatever way possible. I want you to post comments on reviews and discuss them, share some of your opinions with me -- maybe I didn't think of it the way you think of it. Comment on this post and give me suggestions as to what you'd like to see in the reviews; is there a specific aspect of films that you'd like to hear about that maybe I'm not covering heavily enough? Let me know!
But most importantly, this is about the movies that you want to see reviewed. Up until now, I've been reviewing movies that I've had an interest in seeing, but that's not all this job is about -- if you have a suggestion for a movie you'd like to see reviewed, let me know! I'll see if I can find it on Netflix Instant Play, or at Redbox. If you go to my school and think there's a movie out there that just needs to be reviewed for the public, or maybe you just want to hear someone else's take on it, or maybe you just think that I should see it, drop it by my room! I'll give it a watch or two and then write out my take for your reading pleasure.
I love watching movies, and I love analyzing them almost as much, if not more than that. But I can't do it unless I have movies to watch and people who want to read! Thank you guys so much for your support so far! Please, please, please, if you haven't already, share my link on Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, what have you -- let people know that I'm out here doing this! My blog is almost at 600 views right now, and I'd like to reach 1000 by the end of January if possible! Please give me all the help you can to further my passion and help you separate the great movies from the not-so-greats!
